Anneke is a ceramicist and a painter/printmaker and she aims to combine these media in her ceramic sculptures. The imagery of the Torres Strait Islander artists such as Denis Nona and Billi Missi influences her work. Their connection to the earth and sea is essential to their livelihood and survival and informs their art. Their heart connection to their art is what gives their work its strength.
Anneke’s paintings are landcapes interpreted as symbolic of that essential underlying connection to the earth and sea. The road to the coast is rich in visual symbols of our connections to the land – modern and primitive.
Anneke has completed Certificates IV in Visual Arts and Ceramics at Illawarra TAFE, and a Diploma of Fine Art/Printmaking at the Canberra School of Art, and has been a practising artist for over 20 years.
